Product Technical Information

A vehicle suspension usually combines a spring (helical spring, blade, twist bars, pneumatic..), that supports the weight of the vehicle and the height of the chassis and a damper, which controls and limits the movement of the spring stabilising the vehicle when it is in motion.

The Fournales Concept

The Fournales suspension combines a pneumatic spring (high pressure air spring), and a hydraulic damper in a single unit, an oleopneumatics shock absorber (Air Shock).

This High Tech product is the result and culmination of 37 years of research and development, its success has been validated over the years by being used on racing bikes which have won many competitions. Today Fournales manufactures shock absorbers for a wide range of applications from motorcycles to light aircraft. Fournales shocks are tested and optimised for each application to ensure the best performance.
The Fournales suspension meets all requirements: Benefits

• Comfort
• Very progressive action, soaks up small bumps (Zone A)
• Stiffens up more quickly than a traditional coilover shock absorber
• Impossible to bottom out
• Air cushion effect removes unwanted vibrations
• Easily adjustable to match rider and/or luggage weights
• Improves road-holding by extra progressive response
• Wheel-to-ground contact superior to a conventional coilover suspension.
• Much lighter than equivalent coilovers

The Adjustable Pneumatic Spring

The spring is the main parameter that characterises a suspension. With Fournales suspension the "spring" is pneumatic: it consists of a volume of gas (nitrogen or air) that is compressed and so the "spring" varies in strength according to the gas pressure.

The stiffness of this pneumatic spring is easily adjustable by simply changing the pressure in the shock using one of our high-pressure manual pumps. The ease of adjustment means you can get the optimum ride for what ever weights you have on your bike.

Manufacturing

Fournales products are made to the highest aeronautical standards, both in terms of the choice of materials (including seals) as well as the machining and and assembly processes. This results in an exceptionally reliable and durable product.
The production processes and the flexibility of the structure allow Fournales to offer custom manufacturing, adapting to the needs of customers on a case-by-case basis.
The parts, usually made of aluminum alloy, are cut to size on the most modern and efficient digitally controlled machines (CNC).
The sliding tubes of their shocks undergo 4 successive processing operations that give them hardness and a surface condition perfectly adapted to the needs.
All Fournales products have the distinction of being totally rebuildable. Their lifespan is usually that of the vehicle, depending on the use and maintenance, however, these can if required, be rebuilt. In this case, the product leaves the factory "functionally new" with a new warranty. Guarantees are specific for all applications.
